The Super Superfoods

Superfoods are always hot in the press, here’s a look at what to eat for that extra boost.

Chia Seeds

One tablespoon of these little seeds contain as much fibre as a bowl of Bran flakes. Combine that with high levels of antioxidants good for a healthy heart, vitamins and minerals such as calcium and iron and nourishing omega-3. These unbeatable seeds can be sprinkled into cereals, salads, stir fries, bread and seeds mixes giving you the ultimate healthy office snack.

Golden Berries

These new superfoods on the block are being described as a cross between a tomato and a strawberry. Not so convincing, but these sweet-savoury berries are delicious and contain 166% more antioxidants that cranberries and more potassium in one serving than 4 bananas.

Barley

This sweet nutty health boosting grain is high in fibre, protein, antioxidants and health boosting benefits. Barley can help to reduce cholesterol, lowering the risk of heart disease, and can lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of diabetes type 2. Barley is also rich in niacin, important for healthy hair and skin and contains cancer fighting lignans. Try this supergrain in place of pasta, rice or oatmeal.

Black garlic

Garlic has a great reputation for being a great immune booster but meet black garlic. This trendy new clove contains double the amount of antioxidants, plus compounds that lower cholesterol and decrease the risk of cancer. No need to avoid garlic on that hot date, this sweet clove has no bad breath after effects.

White tea

Swop your green tea for this new super tea. The sweet and delicate tea is even more powerful in protecting against cancer than green tea. It also fights bacteria that can lead to viruses and infections. One cup of tea contains 12 times the antioxidants found in a glass of fresh orange juice.

Superfoods, super good. Get eating!
