Food Swaps

We all love our cookie dough ice cream, chips dunked in mayo and that naughty bag of minstrels, but what if we could eat guilt free? Lucky for you here is your list of tasty but healthy food swaps!

Swap ice cream for frozen yogurt

Nothing beats a tub of Ben and Jerry’s and your favourite chic flick, but this tasty treat is high in saturated fat and full of sugar. Just one scoop can be as much as 300kcal! Eek! Swap your ice cream for frozen yogurt. Not only is it delicious, but it contain half the calories and is a great source of calcium, important for healthy strong bones.

Swap fries for sweet potato chips

That bowl of fries will do nothing for those toned abs of yours. Fries are full of fat which can cause weight gain and can clog up arteries and lead to heart disease. Swap them for sweet potato chips. Not only are they low in fat, but contain beta-carotene which can help to protect against cancer and heart disease. Plus, they are super tasty!

Swap rice for quinoa

Quinoa contains fewer carbohydrates and 60% more protein than rice. Great for weight loss. It is also packed with fibre which can help lower cholesterol, help with digestion and can keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Swap your cornflakes for a bowl of porridge

Breakfast is a great way to start off your day but cereals such as cornflakes, rice cereals, puffed cereals and anything honey or chocolate coated are full of sugar. This causes a rapid blood sugar high and can cause over eating later on in the day. Swap your sugary cocopops for porridge, weetabix, shredded wheat and sugar free muesli.

Swap milk chocolate for dark chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate…or maybe a lot! But chocolate doesn’t have to be a guilty treat. Dark chocolate actually has a few health benefits that you can indulge in. Dark chocolate has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain and heart, improving cognitive function and reducing the risk of a stroke. It also contains antioxidants which can protect cells from free radical damage helping to prevent cancer.

That’s me running to get some Green and Black’s on the way home now!
