Fancy saying
goodbye to sit ups for good? Every New Year is started with the resolution to
complete the gruelling task of 50 press ups before work, only to forget a few
weeks later and to be reminded 2 weeks before that fabulous holiday you booked when
you desperately want to wow with your bikini body. Sound familiar?
Have you ever
noticed that abdominal fat is always the hardest thing to loose. Lack of
exercise and eating unhealthy food can all lead to an increase in abdominal
fat. Abdominal fat is harmful to our health and has been linked to an increased
risk of many diseases. Sit ups have become a way to combat this fat
accumulation and get that washboard stomach.
But what if you
could get that flat stomach by doing an activity which is actually fun?
Something that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and has you buzzing
hours afterwards thanks to the surge of endorphins, the happy hormones that are
released after such an activity. The answer; dance. Dance is a great way for
people all of ages to stay in shape and has many health benefits. Dancers have
been shown to have a healthier distribution of body fat according to research
presented at the annual meeting of the American College
of Sport Medicine. The research has shown that dancers have less abdominal fat
compared to non dancers of a similar age even when the two groups had the same
volume of total fat in the body. According to the research, this healthier pattern
of body fat distribution in dancers could be protective against many of the
diseases. Fun, flat abs and a preventative against harmful diseases, there has
never been such a good reason to get those dance shoes on, and get onto that
dance floor!
