“Break that fast”

Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? Yes! Breakfast literally means “breaking the fast.” Whilst we are sleeping our bodies fast and as we are not eating for so long our metabolisms slow down. When we eat breakfast our bodies wake up and start burning energy again.

It is important to start the day off right. Breakfast will help to kick start your metabolism and get it working throughout the day. If you do not eat breakfast your body will think that it needs to conserve energy and your metabolism will slow down and burn less calories throughout the day. Blood sugar production and regulation is also controlled by eating breakfast which can protect your heart, vital organs, the digestive system and the brain as well as promoting longevity. Eating breakfast will stop you craving unhealthy foods later on in the day, helping weight control.

Have a breakfast that is high in carbohydrates to provide you with plenty of energy, plenty of protein to keep you feeling fuller for longer and with fruit for vitamins and minerals to give your body a boost. Healthy options include porridge, low sugar muesli and granola with semi skimmed milk or yogurt topped with fresh or dried fruit and nuts, eggs with wholemeal bread, low sugar and salt baked beans on wholemeal bread, smoothies and yogurts and fruits.

Weight control, a much needed energy boost in the morning, help with concentration and keeps you healthy. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Are you convinced?
